Biological Supplies Nutrients (BSN) are compositions of natural or identical natural biologically active substances intended for direct reception with food or introduction in structure of foodstuff with the purpose of enrichment of a diet by separate food or biologically active substances and their complexes.

All BSN are divided into three basic groups:
1. BSNs to the food, applied for the correction of a chemical compound of food of the person (BSN additional sources: fiber, amino acids, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, mineral substances, food fibers).
2. BSNs to the food, applied to preventive maintenance, auxiliary therapy and support in physiological borders of functional activity of bodies and systems.
3. Probiotics - BSNs to food which structure includes alive microorganisms and (or) their metabolites, rendering normalizing influence on structure and biological activity of micro flora of a digestive path.
Now only about 6 000 names of BSNs are registered, and drugstores are the basic place of their realization. In many drugstores of large cities from 1500 up to 2500 kinds of BSNs are presented in assortment, as a rule, they are exposed on a separate show-window.
As a rule BSNs have complex multi-component structure on which it is very difficult to define the area of their application. At BSNs registration checks on efficiency of application it is not provided, the basic emphasis is made on their safety. Possibly, therefore the majority of BSNs are registered as general stimulating means.
It is not necessary to forget, that BSN is not a medicine and its influence will start to be felt only on 3-4th week of adoption. Considering, that BSN can be applied together with practically any medicine, its application is not senseless - but after the consultation with the attending physician.
